Ephrem T. Lemango, MD, MA, is the Executive Director of the International Institute for Primary Health Care –Ethiopia at the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. His contributions have enabled the country to continue its success of curbing preventable and maternal mortality. Dr. Ephrem is a physician with a specialty in health management, planning and policy. He has a mix of competencies from his experience working as academician, Hospital quality assurance manager, and leader of several programs at national and institutional level. He has a very good experience in designing, optimizing, implementing and evaluating primary care programs due to his successful role as one of the prominent leaders in maternal and child health program of Ethiopia.
Dr. Ephrem has led the development of several national strategies including reproductive health, adolescent and youth health, family planning, and nutrition strategies. He has also made significant contributions to the development of quality and equity strategic plan in the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia. Dr. Ephrem sits on several hospital boards and continental and global advisory groups working on maternal, child health and immunization. On top of advising on primary health care strengthening and maternal and child health programs in developing countries, he also works on health human resource development and medical education. Dr. Ephrem has been a key leader in the establishment of Ethiopia’s national RMNCH-N Research Advisory Council, which addresses matters pertaining to quality, equity, coverage and accessibility of maternal and child health & Nutrition services in Ethiopia.
